No one pushed the envelope more than a fully nude Bianca Censori, but the risqu&eacute; look isn't just losing luster on the red carpet. It seems to be losing meaning.&nbsp;

Another year, another red carpet drenched in sheer fabrics, illusion dressing, and see-through looks. <a href="https://lofficielusa.org/fashion/celebrities-red-carpet-grammys-2025" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The 2025 Grammys</a> proved once again that wearing less clothing is one of celebrities' current favorite red carpet fashion trends.
No one pushed the envelope more than <a href="https://lofficielusa.org/pop-culture/bianca-censori-nude-naked-grammys-2025">Bianca Censori</a>, who arrived (and then was soon escorted out) hand-in-hand with Kanye West in a skin-tight, completely sheer mini dress that left virtually nothing to the imagination. (After all, she wore no undergarments beneath it.) Walking the carpet with nothing to hide sparked an immediate conversation about where the boundaries of fashion&mdash;and modesty&mdash;should be drawn. Meanwhile, <a href="https://lofficielusa.org/fashion/madison-beer-style-songs-music" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Madison Beer&rsquo;s</a> Miss Sohee gilded illusion gown sculpted her figure like a glove while maintaining an air of old Hollywood glamour. The delicate embroidery gave the effect of shimmering directly onto her skin, a balance between elegance and provocation.
But, are we going to exhaust ourselves with this stunt-like look? What was once an act of rebellion&mdash;think <a href="https://lofficielusa.org/fashion/young-cher-fashion-moments-70s" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Cher&rsquo;s</a> 1974 Met Gala moment or Rose McGowan&rsquo;s <a href="https://lofficielusa.org/music/most-memorable-outfits-vma-history" target="_blank" rel="noopener">infamous 1998 VMAs dress</a>&mdash;has now become a formulaic approach to red carpet dressing. Nearly every major awards show these days features at least a handful of celebrities walking the carpet in a sheer, beaded, or skin-tone mesh gown, each iteration slightly different but ultimately playing into the same overexposed aesthetic. In a time where women's rights are being attacked more than ever, there is perhaps something powerful about claiming feminine sensuality as one's own. But do these outfits particularly channel that energy?

That&rsquo;s not to say there&rsquo;s no artistry in the execution. Designers continue to refine the craftsmanship of these illusionary gowns, and some stars manage to pull off sheer dressing with a little more innovation and intent. <a href="https://lofficielusa.org/tags/chrissytiegen" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chrissy Teigen's</a> architectural sheer gown by Christian Siriano, for example, is a fresh take to sheer dressing, with more structure and depth to the overall ensemble. But in an era when it feels like so many has already done it, what happens when nothing is left to reveal?
