Celebrities are Obsessed with This Controversial Dress

Thierry Mugler made his name in the '80s and '90s for conquering the world of haute couture with his eccentric style and dressing big names like Demi Moore in the film Indecent Proposal, Cindy Crawford, and Naomi Campbell. The designer's other great asset that made him famous on a global scale was the launch of the Angel perfume in 1992 which is considered one of the most legendary fragrances of all time.

As Mugler's perfume business grew, sales for his clothing line began to decline. His designs no longer corresponded to the desires of the late '90s and brands like Marc Jacobs, Versace, Calvin Klein, and Perry Ellis were catering more towards shoppers' tastes. To circumvent the crisis, Mugler sold his eponymous brand to Clarins. Unfortunately, the luxury group was also unable to maintain production and in 2003 the clothing label closed, leaving only perfumes.

However, as fashionistas of today are obsessed with the past decades (much in part due to the creative demand of social networks), in the last few years, a series of celebrities from Lady Gaga to Kim Kardashian started asking for pieces from the brand's archive, sowing a new desire. In the Fall/Winter 2011 season, Mugler made its triumphant return to Paris Fashion Week under Nicola Formichetti.

After a few changes, Casey Cadwallader now leads the brand and is responsible for delving deep into the brand's archives and contextualizing Mugler's signature codes into today's styles and trends. Within the last few years, the brand began appearing frequently on red carpets, always calling attention to its bold look.

Now, a new cutout dress from the Spring/Summer 2021 collection has been the center of attention. Actress Megan Fox recently sported the look at the MTV Movie & TV Awards, and Pose star Dominique Jackson modeled the piece during the brand's runway show. Other major celebs have donned similar clipped styles from the collection, shining more attention onto the fashion house.
